Random thoughts...

Its sunday today, I haven't done much so far. Studies are so far out of my mind that its in danger of losing its grounds. The first thing I did today when I got up was watch a Jap Drama VCD, imagine that! Exams are 8 days away and what am I doing? I suppose saying that I am an expert procrastinator isn't too extreme a view.

But the drama made me think. Is society so screwed up when it comes to relationship and spending the rest of your life with one person that you promised at the altar to love and to protect? Dating has become so much of a game that people are willing to try anything and break anyone's heart if they have to.

Is being able to divorce whomever and whenever you want to making marriage such a ridiculous institution today? There was once a time when the promise you made is kept till your death. Perhaps that wasn't so good if you think of the couples to got married and then realised they really weren't meant for each other, but then, some of them did manage to live out the rest of their lives in compromise and were reasonably happy.

Why is it that some couples do not want to talk things out and end up wrecking their own marriage when they go out and get themselves a lover out of the marriage and perform adultery? Are they so sure that their marriage is unrevivable? I mean, some of these people have been married for years and years, and all of a sudden the marriage breaks up? I think people have just become so unconcerned over what they have that they just don't care anymore. If you were once in love, you can still be in love, but people just are too busy nowadays to put too much work into their relationship. But they are willing to put as much work as they can into their career and sometimes, a lover. Is the adventure so enticing? Really?

And I think, in a society today that places so much less importance on finding a loved one, and yet just as much importance on getting married and set for the future by a certain forbidding age, are we doomed to despair about being unable to find The One? And end up with someone that is lesser than the One but able to provide for everything that we want?

What about the guys? Would they just accept a pretty but dumb girl? Would they go in search of The One like a girl would? It is all a matter of personal preference of course, but I wonder, in this case, wouldn't the guys be having much more choice in who they end up with than a girl in the situation we are in today? The pressure may be on for both sexes, but a lady wants someone they can depend on, and sometimes, in this cutthroat world, that is admittedly much more important than being with the person you love.
