Animal welfare... for chickens?

Here goes another celeb taking on the welfare of chickens... I mean, when it is one of the widest consumed food item in the world, how humane or nice would you expect these little animals to be treated? Consumers want their food as cheap as possible, the producers want more profits, so the inventory suffers...

KFC may be one of the largest slaughterer of chickens in the world but aren't there hundreds of others who though possibly not comparable in size who may be just as 'unkind' to those little chickies that they'll kill one day to sell as meat? Now, welfare of egg producing chickens I understand, environment of certain 'special' chickens who are claimed to be free range etc yes arguably important, but of the ones whose lives are doomed so a certain lifespan, not so understandable... to me at least...

Oh well, perhaps KFC is especially bad at it and coop their chickens up with nearly no leg room... wonder if they are afflicted with deep vein thrombosis... Oh, I forgot, they'd have died before we'll find out...

So I say, if you want to eat chickies... perhaps you shouldn't complain too much.
