Where did I stop before this? I'm not too sure... but well lets see, I've had to house-sit the second day I was here cause the guys who are doing up my friend's new door and paint were in and out of the house. Then we went and bought some groceries to cook, the pasta they ended up cooking really is interesting and I have a good mind to try it when I go home.
Then that night we went out with her friends Lorna and Weena (I think that's how their names are spelt), one is English and one is Aussie Chinese (moved here when she was really young). They are really fun! haha... Real party girls according to JooLi and I'm gonna be seeing more of that party girl side tonight as we're going to Southbank.
We met some annoying guys at the bar that night, a bunch of M'sian with one caucasian fellow who kept dancing up against JooLi, and he did it once too often and got pushed away by Lorna. We decided to leave at round 12 cause they were getting too annoying...
After two days in Brissie, I have some thoughts about the place. The first is that this place reminds me of Singapore, well planned and clean but because of that, not much character. Everything looks so uniform and I think the most interesting things and charming ways about a city is the fact that there can be so many different sort of areas at a turn on a street and its definitely not so here. The second thought is that the part of the city near the river on Alice Street reminds me of Gurney Drive in Penang, with the charming old building(s) as well as some new ones and a long drive with a view. The third, although its a nice place with nice people, I wouldn't like to live here... its much too quiet, too much peace and not much pace, give me Sydney any day!
The suburban mall that is Indooroopilly is a fairly large mall, but nothing compared to the Westfield at Bondi Junction but then its pretty good. Transport is fairly good here but then they're fairly good in any Aussie State and territory.
Another point I find different about this place and Syd or even Melb is the fact that a larger percentage of people here are more obviously racist. Perhaps because of the lower numbers of Asians here. But it definitely annoys me that they are, even the lecturers and tutors at my friend's uni are so it makes one wonder, why is it so?
We went to the Mount Coot-tha lookout yesterday night, and I found that the sprawling Brissie suburbs do actually look nice at night. But it annoyed me that her friend had to say that 'oh, you don't have any sort of lookouts like this in Sydney do you?'. I didn't even say anything bad about your city, the only thing I have against it is that I wouldn't like to live here and no one's saying I plan to move here or anything... And honestly, you prick, we don't need lookouts like this in Sydney, our dozens of places that we can lookout from around the harbour is fine by me (oh damm, I suddenly remembered... wouldn't North Head qualify as a lookout?), sides, seeing the different views from all the different beaches and bays are even better!
Alright guess I better get outta the house now!
