Amazing Beeg Apple!

I recently went to the Beeg Apple... I had expected it to be grand and amazing of course but well... things turned out a little differently. On first arriving in the hallowed land of the United States (touched down in Newark, NJ) my first thought was, what a FLAT place... there were no high rises (not past about 10 storeys anyways) and buildings were built far between. That's the great thing about having loads of land isn't it?

Then I got to New York... on first sight, it was rather disappointing. I suppose I was looking forward to more grandeur than was on offer near 38th St. However, after exploring it over a week... I came away thinking... MAGNIFICENT! Its nowhere as beautiful as the harbour city of Sydney where the view is absolutely breathtaking at any time of the day, nowhere near as charming as San Francisco, nowhere near as modern as Shanghai but its something in its own. Its so planned and big and yet it has areas that feels as if you're in a lil village (that's Greenwich), areas that make you feel as if you're in another country (that's Chinatown), and areas that make you feel you're in heaven (that's 5th Avenue ;)

I managed to visit Guggenheim and The Met, two absolutely must see art museums, a waste that Guggenheim was having an external facelift of some sort... the building's an item on its own! Central Park right opposite it is something! Its so huge I could get lost in it...

But then we decided that getting lost in Saks was a much better option and believe me, its possible to get lost inside Saks and Bergdorf... (Saks' ten storeys high for god's sake!) Every store we went to in the big apple was several storeys high... even the boutiques... I definitely didn't bring enough money! sighs...

to be continued...
