We woke up rather early and got out at about half past seven in the morning, just to find the city still half asleep (perhaps cause its Christmas Eve). We took the tube to Camden and found the city just waking up for the new day, there were people setting up their stalls with their wares, there were people who, like us were there early for the day. On a short walk down the main street of Camden, we saw so many amazingly funny shopfronts, with their protruding 3D models of the things sold in the shop like a pair of shoes (giant sized), sneakers and the like. Its not one, but one row of shops with giant styrofoam looking things hanging from the 1st floor wall above the shops!
So we took a look at the markets (there were two of them) and browsed the shops and discovered some outlet stores. I wanted to visit Aldo (where I found a pair of shoes for 10 pounds! What a bargain! ;), so before it opened its doors we had to while our time away and we went to Starbucks to do that. I had an Eggnog Latte (something different!), it tastes really extremely sweet, and the people who work there are pretty nice too (something I've come to expect of all Starbucks baristas after having been to so many stores in different cities all over the world) and for once, this is my only venture in to Starbucks in a city filled with them. (Believe me, on other occasions, I have actually went to one at least every other day, or every day...)
We then took the tube to Covent Garden and took a picture with a really cute old English guard type dressed gentleman. (will post it once i get it off the camera =p) Covent Garden's really pretty with its lil shops and cafes littered around and surrounding a church. For the rest of the day, we walked around the Leicester Sq, Chinatown, West End and Picaddily Circus area before deciding to head off to the Bristish Museum. Alas, only to find it closed till 27th. Sigh...
So we had a short walk through Hyde Park instead, ending at the Diana Memorial which is really either an understated Fountain that was well thought out or just an ugly structure in a beautiful park. I'm more inclined towards the former, especially if you have been a fan and been through her ups and downs with her. The fountain is really symbollic of that. On another note, on our short walk through, we have come to realise just how popular certain makes of cars are in Britain... =) especially the Mini and Porshes and BMWs.
As the day draws to an end, we made our way to Euston to catch our Virgin train to Birmingham. So bye bye London for a couple of days ;)
