Sharizan Live at Alexis

Alexis is fast becoming one of my favourite hangouts on Fridays and/or Saturday nights because of the performances that Play@Ampang always manages to dish out in style.

Yesterday I went round to Ampang for dinner with Pheryns and friends on the occasion of her birthday and although I had no idea who was coming up that night, I was pleasantly surprised by the performer Sharizan, who's apparently the king of Swing in M'sia.

He entertained us not only with his music, the playlist of which included Jazz standards by Frank Sinatra etc. but also Jazzed up pop songs in Malay and Chinese! He always managed to provide an interesting introduction to the songs by choosing songs that were featured in movies and such.

In between songs, he wowed us with us vocal prowess in the voice over sense. He was an excellent cartoon caracter - Daffy I think... he redid a few of the commercials in which he was the singing and/or speaking voice (extremely entertaining and funny). One of my favourites was this song he did for an Avanza ad in Indonesia, I didn't think Avanzas could be sold as such an item of luxury. =p

He did mention that he hosts the Jazz and Swing section every Sunday evenings on Lite FM, so I think I might listen in now and then. (Just hope I actually remember to do so!) Jazz is so thin on availability on air here in Malaysia...

Now anyone for Anita Wardell on May 24th?
